Nature is the source of every raw material required to produce every company’s products and services.

An equitable, net-zero, nature-positive future is the only viable future and since the current nature and climate crises are deeply interconnected, business must tackle both simultaneously. Doing so will help mitigate climate change through increasing carbon sequestration and stabilize nature - the source of the food, fiber and fuel that all human activities depend on. Nature provides the raw materials and ecosystem services we need to sustain livelihoods and economies. The current level of nature loss and climate change is already resulting in real and significant risks to economies, businesses, and communities.

Business for Nature’s partner, the Science Based Targets Network is developing new science-based targets for nature, which build on the momentum of the 1000+ companies already committed to set climate science-based targets. If you’re a business, you can get started now and put your company in the strongest position to thrive in a zero-carbon, nature-positive future through helping protect the Earth’s water, ocean, land and biodiversity.

The Science Based Targets Network is looking for African, Latin-American and Asian companies, industry coalitions and consultancies to join its Corporate Engagement Program. Members will help ensure nature science-based targets are impactful, user-friendly, cost-effective and easy to implement. As part of the Program, members will also be invited to give feedback on the Science Based Targets Network’s Initial Guidance for Business which explains how to begin gathering data on a company's impacts and dependencies on nature. It also explains where possible, how to measure and set targets and how to start transforming into a nature-positive business.

We are excited about working with companies to ensure our nature targets are as user-friendly and easy to implement as possible. Time is of the essence. The companies that work with us now will be in the strongest position to thrive in the future as well as being at the forefront of the transition to the zero-carbon, nature-positive economy.
