Business for Nature is hiring a Communications Lead
We are looking for an experienced Communications Lead to join our international team and help grow Business for Nature’s impact. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a multi-stakeholder team, and through this role you will be directly exposed to the decision-making process and strategy of the organization.
To be successful, you will have strong writing and inter-personal skills, and a proven track record of taking a strategic approach to communications spanning a range of channels and high-level audiences, ideally in both the private and public sectors. Media relations experience and the ability to build lasting relationships with journalists would be a plus. As well as thinking strategically and writing in a compelling way, we are looking for someone who is passionate about sustainability and environmental issues with an understanding of how to engage businesses and who is aware of the shifting news landscape in order to reach a broad and international audience.
We work in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment. You need to be comfortable working autonomously, with the ability to lead projects from inception to completion. As a member of a small team operating across the world, you should feel comfortable working virtually.

The Communications Lead will fulfil the following functions:
Work with the Communications Director to shape and implement an effective communications strategy aligned to Business for Nature’s priorities, with a specific focus on maximizing the coalition’s visibility and impact around key campaigns and milestone events such as international conferences and report launches.
Draft, edit, enhance and manage content including op-eds, reports, website copy, speeches, briefings, case studies, regular partner news updates and other written materials aimed at senior business stakeholders and policymakers. This includes maintaining key talking points for Business for Nature – a central resource for our coalition partners and the progressive companies we work with to use at events and with journalists and policymakers.
Lead on the creative and editorial development and delivery of events and campaigns reaching large and diverse global audiences.
Work with third parties to develop both the design and content of high-profile external reports.
Manage and help grow Business for Nature’s online presence with our digital agency, sharing content to inform the editorial calendar, proactively planning new content and supporting our digital presence during key campaign moments.
Represent the coalition in a range of meetings and partnerships to ensure strategic communications effectively support the delivery of key projects led by Business for Nature or its partners - where relevant hosting or moderating sessions.
As needed, attend international events and conferences such as UN Biodiversity COPs to provide real-time strategic communications and delivery support to Business for Nature delegations.
Manage the pipeline of communications efforts and liaise across the Business for Nature team.
Qualifications, skills and experience
A degree in communication, political sciences, environmental management, economics, sustainable development, or any other relevant field.
5 to 10 years’ experience working in media and communications, including in strategic roles and fast-paced environments. Experience working in international policy, business and sustainability would be a plus.
Outstanding English written and oral communications skills particularly to convey complex ideas, thoughts and concepts for diverse and senior audiences in a compelling and concise way.
Knowledge of current sustainability issues and a passion for delivering communications that help deliver global change.
Strong organizational and time management skills, including a capacity to track details and deliver complex and time-sensitive projects involving multiple stakeholders.
Ability to build trusting relationships with people of diverse backgrounds, sectors and seniority levels, and to achieve consensus around collective outcomes.
Good judgment and initiative, with a capacity to adapt quickly to fast-changing demands.
Experience of delivering a range of events, projects and campaigns with measurable media and communication outcomes.
Knowledge and understanding of social media platforms.
Beneficial but not essential:
Existing relationships with environmental journalists
Experience using Zoho and SquareSpace
