Business for Nature and WBCSD launch new nature-positive roadmap for the pharmaceutical sector

Business for Nature and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development today unveil the latest overview report on actions for the pharmaceutical sector to contribute towards a nature positive future.

Developed in collaboration with PwC-UK and industry leaders such as GSK, AstraZeneca, Bayer, Novartis, Novo Nordisk, Reckitt, and Roche, the pharmaceutical roadmap offers a strategic blueprint for integrating nature-positive practices across the sector. It provides a structured approach for assessing nature-related impacts and dependencies across the value chain, from raw material sourcing to product end-of-life considerations. It provides an overview of key actions companies within the pharmaceuticals sector should prioritize now.

Action on nature matters for health, climate and long-term business success,. , Collaboration is key to making progress.
— Claire Lund, VP of Sustainability at GSK

This report is part of a join collaboration between Business for Nature (BfN), the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), and the World Economic Forum (WEF). This latest addition follows the Automotive and Mining and Metals sector roadmaps released earlier this year under WEF's leadership, bringing to a total of 15 sector guidance report.

The series of sector roadmaps encourage companies to implement the outlined actions, tailor them to their specific contexts, and continue driving collaboration for collective impact. For businesses to credibly contribute towards a nature-positive future, it is essential to adopt a sector-specific approach to nature action, recognizing the unique ways different sectors interact with and depend on nature. The sector-specific actions build on the high-level actions businesses should take to credibly help halt and reverse nature loss and contribute to an equitable, nature-positive economy. All businesses need to Assess, Commit, Transform and Disclose (ACT-D high-level business actions on nature).
