Business for Nature Coalition is hiring an Advocacy Associate to provide general support to the advocacy activities of the coalition team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a multi-stakeholder international coalition. We are looking for a passionate individual with experience in advocacy/campaigning, has worked with a policy audience as well as an understanding of environmental issues and ideally of UN multilateral processes.

Title: Advocacy Associate, Business for Nature coalition

Reports to: Executive Director, Business for Nature coalition 

Term: One year, starting January 2021

Location: Flexible, ability to work remotely and travel occasionally 

Position: Full or part-time negotiable.

Overview: The Business for Nature coalition (BfN) unifies the leading business voice calling to reverse nature loss in this decade. We are a global coalition of influential organizations and forward-thinking businesses that know that nature is everyone’s business. Ultimately, our aim is to give policymakers the courage and comfort to make ambitious agreements on nature. We’re an inclusive organization committed to looking for different talents to build a diverse team where all groups are represented.

The Business for Nature Advocacy Associate will:

  1. Support a range of activities relating to our work on the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in the run up to the COP 15, including stakeholder mapping, coordination of delegations’ meetings, preparation of positions, briefing and speaking points

  2. Monitor the CBD negotiations, including mapping of key countries positions

  3. Support BfN engagement at the UNFCCC COP 26

  4. Support preparations for BfN events including invitation management, venue and facility

    bookings

  5. Support team with contact management through Salesforce CRM

  6. Draft material that will feed into communication efforts, policy positions and background

    briefings

  7. Attend relevant meetings and conferences when appropriate

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • A graduate degree in political sciences, environmental management, economics, sustainable development, or any other relevant field

  • Experience in advocacy/policy and engaging a policymaking audience

  • Experience with UN multi-lateral processes (i.e. CBD, UNFCCC, UNGA...) would be advantageous

  • A talent for working in multi-stakeholder partnerships

  • Excellent English written and oral communications skills particularly to convey complex ideas, thoughts and concepts for a general audience

  • Proficiency in other languages would be a plus (e.g. Mandarin)

  • Strong organizational and time management skills including a capacity to track details

  • Strong sense of responsibility for taking projects from inception to completion

  • Ability to work independently
