We are looking for an experienced Business Engagement Lead to join our impactful international team, to implement and continue to develop the overall business engagement strategy of the coalition as well as general activities. This is an exciting opportunity to work with an impactful multi-stakeholder international team, and through this role you will be directly exposed to the decision-making process and strategy of the organization.  

We work in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment. To be successful, you need to be comfortable working autonomously, with the ability to lead projects from inception to completion.  As a small team operating across the world, you should feel comfortable working virtually.

Title: Business Engagement Lead, Business for Nature coalition

Reports to: Operations and Engagement Senior Manager, Business for Nature  

Term:  Permanent position, ideally starting Q2/Q3 2024 

Location: We are a virtual team so you can be based anywhere providing you have the right to work there. You will need to travel occasionally.  

Position: Full time (part time also negotiable)

Salary range: USD 40k - 85k, depending on location, for full time position.   

This is a good-faith range based on a full-time (40 hour/week) employment contract. Salary may vary based on number of hours worked, local market and experience. The range listed is one component of the total compensation package for employees.

Key responsibilities 

  • Lead and manage our engagement and outreach with a growing number of companies and financial institutions to support delivery of BfN’s priorities, including:   

    • identifying leading companies and examples on nature and biodiversity  

    • disseminating key information and engagement opportunities for businesses to take action and drive policy ambition via webinars, events, consultations, reports and campaigns etc  

    • liaising with BfN partners to establish relationships with companies and share material  

    • supporting engagement with BfN’s Business Advisory Group   

    • supporting the data management and monitoring of signatories to different campaigns, e.g. Call to Action “Nature Is Everyone’s Business” 

    • leading - with our coalition partners- a business delegation for key events  

  • Lead the implementation of a longer-term business engagement strategy and plans for the coalition and contribute to monitoring BfN’s performance, activities and impact on engagement.  

  • Support the ‘It’s Now for Nature’ campaign by engaging companies, including through BfN partners, to publish nature strategies as part of the campaign.  

  • Support business action, advocacy, regional and national business engagement, and communications business engagement objectives. This includes setting up meetings, drafting and writing reports/ briefings as necessary, supporting and helping manage contact management/events and mass emails through our CRM platform, Zoho.  

  • Speak at and attend relevant meetings, events and conferences where appropriate.  

Qualifications, skills and experience 

  • Experience of working with a corporate audience, particularly on sustainability.   

  • Experience in project management, including monitoring and evaluation.   

  • Strong organizational and time management skills including a capacity to track details.  

  • A graduate degree in environmental management, economics, sustainable development, communication, political sciences, or any other relevant field.  

  • Excellent English written and oral communications skills particularly to convey complex ideas, thoughts and concepts for a general and business audience in a compelling and concise way.  

  • Knowledge of using and managing excel spreadsheets to manipulate and manage datasets.   

  • Experience of working in a multi-stakeholder environment.   

  • Proficiency in other languages would be beneficial.   

  • Experience using Zoho would be beneficial. 

  • Ability to work collaboratively and autonomously in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment. 

  • Strong sense of responsibility for taking projects from inception to completion.
